Accidents happen. Knowing what to do when a dental\nemergency<\/a> strikes is imperative when it comes to saving your tooth. So,\nwhether you have a toothache from all the holiday treats, or you trip over some\npresents on the ground and knock your tooth out, it\u2019s crucial that you know how\nto handle the situation. The first thing you should do is always call your\nemergency dentist in Horseshoe Bay, but in the meantime, here is how to deal\nwith some common dental emergencies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Knocked-Out Tooth <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The most important thing is that the tooth stays wet. The best\nway to accomplish this is by placing the tooth back in the socket. Gently pick\nit up by the crown (the part that\u2019s normally visible in your smile) and not<\/em>\nthe pointed root. If you\u2019re having trouble inserting the tooth back into the\nsocket, hold it in your mouth between your cheek and gums. Alternatively, you\ncould store it in a container of milk until you get to the dentist\u2019s office. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cracked Tooth <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

First, clean the area by rinsing your mouth out with warm\nwater. To keep any swelling down, apply a cold compress to the appropriate cheek\nfor 10 minutes on, 10 minutes off. Take over-the-counter pain medications if\nneeded. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bitten Tongue or Lip <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Gently clean the area with water and hold a cold compress to\nit. Again, take your choice of store-bought pain medications as directed on the\nbottle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toothache <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Rinse your mouth out with warm water to dislodge any food\ndebris that may be stuck between your teeth and causing your discomfort. If that\ndoesn\u2019t work, use dental floss. Take OTC pain medications like ibuprofen as\nneeded. Just be sure that if you take aspirin, to not<\/em> place it directly\non the sore area, as that could worsen your pain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Object Stuck in the Mouth <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Attempt to remove the object with dental floss. Whatever you\ndo, do not<\/em> use a sharp or pointed object like a toothpick, as that may\ninjure your teeth and gums and increase your discomfort. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whatever your dental emergency is, it\u2019s urgent that you call\nyour emergency dentist first thing. It could save your tooth!  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
